Rogers is faculty director of Columbia Business School's executive education programs in Digital Business Strategy and Digital Marketing and founder of the BRITE (brands, innovation, and technology) conference. An excellent playbook on digital transformation

This book is a must read for anyone who is looking for a good book on digital transformation.
The book is packed with good practical examples from well-known digital native and traditional companies including tools, suggestions and interesting information about digital transformation.With his professional background in Business Strategy and Digital Marketing, the author profoundly provides a unique view on Digital Strategy.
This book consists of seven chapters with conclusion in the end. Self- assessment is also provided to conduct an audit of the business’s readiness for digital transformation.
The first chapter begins with the five domains of digital transformation which cover customers, competition, data, innovation and value. The author explains how digital forces are reshaping such domains. In this chapter, key concepts and strategic themes of digital transformation are defined. I believe that these five domains are essential factors that need to be seriously considered by all companies under the digital environment. Even though organizational challenges have been mentioned in this book, my personal view is that this topic should be considered as a domain in digital transformation as well.
Chapter two focuses on customer domain. The author points out that the relationship of customers to businesses is changing therefore business people have to rethink about their customers. The author explains how and why such relationship to customers is changing in every industry. The author also points out that we are no longer in Mass market business model but we are in the midst of a profound shift toward “Customer network model”. With the emerging of digital platform businesses, I believe that everyone can see this shifting.
Chapter three provides detailed information on competition. The main point of this chapter is “Build platforms, not just products”. With great examples from platform businesses like Airbnb and other similar platform businesses companies we can clearly see that competition is happening more across industries than being happened within the same industries. We can see the role of asymmetric competitors in this chapter. Detailed information on platforms can be found in this chapter. However, further reading is required if you want to know more about platform businesses.
Chapter four focuses on data domain. As we all know companies all over the world have long been using data as a tool for their businesses. They also know that data is a valuable asset. However turning data into asset is less likely to happen in the real world for pre-Internet companies. Thank to this book, the author includes the data as a domain for digital transformation. The author depicts the changes in strategic assumptions from the analog to the digital age in term of data usage. Focusing on data as an asset is the main point of this chapter. The data strategy and impact of big data are explained with great examples. The data value generator proposed in this chapter is an important tool for generating new strategic ideas for using the data. However, further reading is still required to explore the meaning of data in other perspectives.
Innovation has been an important part of every business and playing more important role in digital businesses. Chapter five gives the details on innovation domain. Apparent examples shown in this chapter are good information on how companies learn to innovate and improve their products, services and processes. A success story of a company provides in this chapter is a good source of ideas for innovation. Innovate by rapid experimentation is the main point of this chapter. Seven principles of experimentation are provided as a guideline to create the most for company innovation efforts. Based on those principles two types of experimental methods given in this chapter are very helpful for such experiments. We can also learn how to scaling up an innovation by using four paths describe in this chapter.
Chapter six is about value domain. Adapt your value proposition is the main point of this chapter. Music business is used as an example to describe the value proposition of players in this business. In addition to value change in strategic assumption the author also proposes the routes for businesses to move upward a declining market. In order for any organization to access and adapt its value proposition for its customers, the Value Proposition Roadmap is a helpful tool for this purpose. Under this roadmap, detailed information is provided by using hypothetical university as a good example.
Final chapter is about Mastering Disruptive Business Model. In this chapter the author develops a clear understanding of disruption in a sphere of business by offering a comprehensive definition of business disruption. It can be clearly seen from the definition that innovations are not the same as disruption. The author also proposes a Business Model Theory of Disruption as a predictor of business disruption. There are two types of tools being used under the topic of Mastering Disruptive Business Model. With the help of these tools the companies will be able to assess whether or not new challenger poses a disruptive threat to an incumbent industry and will also be able to map out how a disruptive challenge will likely play out and identify companies best option for response. The strategies to become the disrupter and the strategies to mitigate losses from the disruptor are provided with examples.
In conclusion, the author emphasize that digital transformation is not about technology but about strategy. Organizational agility is a key reason for businesses that are unable to successfully keep up with fast-paced evolution of digital age. Therefore three general areas in developing organizational agility are proposed in this chapter .In addition, the author also provides Self-assessment tool to conduct companies’ readiness for digital transformation.
I completely agree with the author that, in many cases, management simply doesn’t have a playbook to follow to understand and then address the competitive challenges of digitization. If you are looking for such playbook I recommend this book to you.

Derek Pykett spent many years of his life as a professional actor, working in theatre, television and films, and making his first movie appearance in what is now regarded as a classic, The Princess Bride (1986) directed by Rob Reiner. In 2001 he founded his own theatre company, Theatre Macabre, specialising in horror and fantasy. Shows produced include Dracula, Jack the Ripper and Witchfinder General. More recent years have seen him produce and direct documentaries for DVD, including AMICUS: House of Horrors (Alpha Home Entertainment, USA). Previously published work as an author includes, Michael Ripper Unmasked (Midnight Marquee, USA) and British Horror Film Locations (McFarland, USA). Derek and his partner Ruth live in England, and they have three dogs – Lucy, Willow and Woolly.

Stellar documentation of a film history niche

Here's a book that fills a vacant niche in film history: a well-documented book based on interviews with an extensive array of men an women that worked at the MGM British Studios. They share their memories of the people and films produced there. The author has done a stellar job locating these individuals and painstakingly documenting their recollections, as well covering the full breadth of eras. The publisher has produced a well-written and edited book that will please film students interested in MGM's British productions.

Best book I ever read on Stock Market.

I read so many books on stock market, but many of them are of more fizzy than substance.

Book by "Chellamuthu Kuppusamy" is unique with full of interesting substance.

His story telling style of explaining concepts will make assimilating concepts easy.

This book touches many of the concepts in detail.

I liked the details on how sensex got created in 1986 but with a base value of 100 on 1979.

Everything this book deals with is in depth and thorough with examples.

I liked the chapter "Some Common Mistakes" especially "52 week high and low"(Even it affects my investment decisions when stock trades closer to 52 week high lows which often makes me miss some good opportunity or get in to ever falling stock).

I can say this book will remain as classic as Benjamin Graham's "Intelligent Investor".

This could possibly be one of the most sensible book ever written about the stock market with Indian context. The author explains various aspects around investments with real time examples.

Fascinating world of Stock Market is normally considered as exciting but, a complex animal. Chellamuthu Kuppusamy is more qualified to write this book than any other “Intelligent Expert”, as he always has the knack of looking at things from a learner’s perspective, than from a top down approach.

Absolutely loved this book!

I never felt like I was particularly good at understanding mathematical concepts - at school I was always the more humanities and languages oriented kind of person. And yet this book was a fantastic read! The writing style is so simple, yet informative and simply so well worded that I almost felt like I was reading a novel! Never thought I would say this about a math book, but I really enjoyed the read and in some parts it even made me laugh out loud!

And - even more important than the fun I had reading it - I really felt like the True Beauty of Math opened up a whole new world of math for me that goes way beyond the topics I was taught at school. So much of what this book explains and discusses is really relevant in all of our lives, whether or not we study math!

I definitely recommend this book - certainly to anyone involved in, or interested in becoming involved in, math, but also to anyone who is just looking for an interesting read and some food for thoughts! As this book shows, it is never too late to let go of old prejudices and approach something with an open mind!

The book really is everything the intro promises. I really enjoyed this intro to Math, and really this new understanding. I haven't studied, or really applied any sort of math knowledge in over 5 years but this book really brought all the interest back.

His breakdown of topics like the concept of infinity, the proof of infinite prime numbers, sets, and Cartesian products are not only interesting. But they're inspiring. The book takes away the mystery of some of these fundamental mathematics principles and really encourages critical thinking.

And as the intro promised, the book really did start my trip down this mathematical rabbit hole. Upon finishing this book, I had to buy another math book and keep my interest peaked. I only wish there were more volumes in this True Beauty Of Math series

Best Math book ever!

This book is mind-blowing! Reading it made me wish I had studied math at much higher levels.

I was always pretty good at math, but got bored with the tedium of long calculations. Because I thought math was just about manipulating numbers I went a different way in college (philosophy). Now I wish I had majored in math, cuz it gives you a different vehicle to solve those big universal questions.

I even got my best friend, who thought she hated math, to read the book. She also loves it.

I highly recommended this book!

Essential book for every CEO's library filled with examples and humor

I have known Guy Smith for nearly 25 years and have seen numerous examples of his writing ability. I believe this book is his best of all.

Actually, I wish I had access to a book such as this when I started my own software business. Being predominantly very technical, I struggled in the early years to define the market for my first two products. The book has excellent content to explain market segmentation that would apply to me at that time.

After four years of turmoil, I succeeded with the hiring of a seasoned marketing professional who introduced me to Crossing the Chasm, another "must have" book confirmed by Guy. Together, my partner and I set upon realistic sales goals that (as the book confirmed) we had to educate the market on our revolutionary new product. Over the years I have seen all types of buyers defined in the book from the early adopters to the conservative laggards.

Guy spends considerable time on branding and rightly so as I had learned how important that area can be to the success or failure of a product, service and the company. We renamed our product line in 2001 and that took considerable effort, both in time and money. Our long-time customers were puzzled so I learned the hard way that as the CEO I had to enforce the brand. And I still do today. Guy is correct in that it is the CEO's primary function to enforce the brand.

Just when you may think you know it all, you don't. And Guy has given me invaluable advice of how to market your product, service and company to venture capitalists and investors. Although I have never sought outside money, I have learned how to promote the company thanks to content in this book.

I like Guy's writing style for two reasons. Each chapter is filled with tables, graphs and a summary that emphasizes the material. Additionally, he includes real-life examples from his own experience. Best of all, he includes quite a bit of humor too making it exciting to read.

I highly recommend this book to anyone starting a business. Heck, it has even helped me having 27+ years of business ownership.

Excellent writing, concise and flows well

First, let me say that I've known Guy personally for over 25 years. However, I was extremely surprised and impressed with his writing ability.

I wish I had this book 15 years ago when I worked at several smaller software companies as CxO, including CEO. This book is an excellent overview of marketing and allows the CEO to strategically set direction, understand what's important (and what's not) in one's marketing strategy and provide intelligent and knowledgeable input to the marketing of new products, product direction and budgeting for marketing.

Too often CEOs of small software/IT companies have very limited knowledge of marketing and, frankly, have limited time (or interest) in reading all the material. I read several of the books Guy references, but this overview guide book would have been invaluable to me.

It will also help readers understand why VCs and Angel investors throw out so many people who come to pitch their products. They're looking for answers to marketing questions, not product questions. Without knowing the answers to the questions Guy addresses, investors won't listen to you.

It's not a book for experienced marketing people and it's not a book that will make a CEO a marketing expert.

However, it is what Guy says it is, and I enjoyed it and learned from it.

Enjoyed this book, very straight forward, easy to read and allows you to dig and thing. I recommend taking notes on your thought process while you read… it helped guide me.

About the Author
In 1989, Dr. Ong U. Routh studied computational mechanics and obtained a PhD degree in Tsinghua University, China. In 1991, he worked as a researcher in Osaka University, Japan, developing finite element software for the numerical simulation of sheet metal forming. Since 1999, he has conducted many industrial software projects for the analysis of structures and multi-bodies systems. His career interest is in the research and implementation of numerical algorithms that is directly used to solve engineering problems, such as finite element analysis, multi rigid bodies analysis, differential equations and matrix computations.

the best book I ever read about matrix calculation

This is one of the best books I ever read in terms of matrix calculation and operation. Nearly all of kernel matrix technology is covered, such as matrix decomposition, linear equation solving, eigenvalue problem solving, singular value decomposition, etc. If you are looking for a nice tutorial/book comprehensively talking about matrix calculation, that it is!

The book is detailed oriented, the complicated mathematical algorithms are well explained and nicely presented to readers. The content is well-organized, author teaches you from the fundamental to the intermediate knowledge. Massive examples are given in the book to help you better understanding the details. The learning curve of this book is flat and smooth, you won’t be frustrated during learning such challenging subject.

The book uses Matlab language to demonstrate the algorithms, which is thoughtful for readers from different backgrounds. You do not have to study another difficult programming language such as C++ before starting the journey of matrix exploration. The book gives concise Matlab code, the reader also can obtain the full version of source code to run, test, and learn.

This book is very useful to my algorithm course

I am a computer science student. This book is very useful to my algorithm course. It includes detailed discussions of all the matrix algorithms taught in my class. The presentations are unique compared to other books in that short MATLAB codes and examples are included. I found debugging the MATLAB codes really speeds up my learn curve.
