poor practice questions

the book gives 2 actual exams and 3 "lsat-like" exams along with practice "lsat-like" questions in each of the three sections. when you go through the "lsat-like" questions, you can tell there is a difference in the quality of the problem sets and questions. but much worse than the fact that the "lsat-like" problems are not comparable quality to the actual tests, the answer section gives very poor explanations for why one answer is better than the others, except to say that it is correct and the others are not.

the practice tests that are not real also fall short of providing a conversion from raw-score to actual lsat score, so even after you spend a full two-three hours taking a practice test, you don't really know how it would have been scored.

i would recommend buying actual lsat tests to practice off of or the kaplan books that have better explanations for the answers.

M. Yau is right, the quality of this book seems sub-par. You can sense a difference between what the real tests questions feel like versus the ones created for the book, and the explanations of the answers get very lazy as the book goes on, supplying no real explanations. After I while I didn't trust whether I was getting an accurate barometer of a real LSAT. Also there are several typos and mistakes in the book, which make you doubt what you're reading sometimes when you come across a stumper. I'm very frustrated and I'm about to drop this book and go buy a new one.

not good for a 'base" study book

I have explored (bought or borrowed) almost every prep series out there on the market. I got to Barron's last and I must admit it was very disappointing. I have reviewed both the 12th and 13th editions and they are very similar so if you really love this series just buy one not both.

Now since I don't like this series I will say this, do not try to learn their techniques they truly are rubbish. The explanations are very short and do not give you much insight. Also I really just laughed out loud when I read through the logic games and their suggested set-ups. OMG, if you do these set-ups first off they will eat at your time (way too elaborate) AND they will confuse the heck out of you! It took more energy to try to follow the suggested format then to just use commonsense and guess (assuming the question is just that difficult).

The one positive I will note is that the questions in the diagnostic part and the sample tests are "closer" to real LSAT questions when compared to Kaplan but that isn't saying much. In my humble opinion official LSAT material paired with Powerscore truly is the best stuff on the market for those of you (like me) who are "teaching" ourselves vs. classroom instruction. If you insist on using this just use it for more practice tests but know that these are "easier" than the real deal so your score will tend to be inflated.
** gave this two stars simply because the tests are better than Kaplan, but again that is NOT saying much.

Awesomeness Incarnate

Ok, so "Awesomeness Incarnate" might be a tad bit lofty, but it's at least up there with, say, the cure for cancer, a Nobel Prize, or the person who invented Velcro. Seriously.

All right, I'm still joking, but this book IS GOOD. It's a necessary compliment to Erich's system and anyone who wants a thorough understanding of music reading.

When I heard of this book, I instantly bought it with no hesitation. His method of communication and his system WORKS! Now, this book isn't like the normal book you would pick up at the music store. You won't find tons of songs and sheet music with little explanation. In fact, it is the opposite: lots of explanation. You will still have to go out and find some sheet music to practice on, a lot of sheet music. However, this book will give you all the tools you will need to read any musical notation. Overall, his explanations are very clear, almost like you have a patient friend sitting there explaining things to you. The pictures are extremely helpful.

Why am I so adamant about Erich in general? Simply, his method works and his explanations make sense. I first learned of Erich Andreas through his youtube videos ([...] which readily convinced me that Erich's style of teaching is a perfect fit for me. Almost immediately I turned to his Unstoppable Guitar System ([...] Recently, I had to do some training out of town, so I decided to swing by a local music store for a lesson. I explained to the teacher I was mainly self-taught with online videos and with a little less than a month's time practicing. The teacher was amazed. He asked me twice how long I had been practicing, stating my progress was remarkable. He said normally people who are self taught over shoot their cords, don't curl their fingers, etc. I don't say that to brag. It's all because of the hard work you see here. Hope this helps.

Another helpful book by Erich Andreas

This is the second book I have read and reread by this author and I gotta say, this one is every bit as helpful as his "Guitar Ninja" book is. I learned to read music in junior high but, like all skills, "if you don't use them, you lose them"...and I didn't and did. I have been teaching myself how to REALLY play the guitar; and to do that properly, I feel it is in my best interest to re-acquaint myself with reading music. Along comes this book on the top 100 free list, and the rest is history.

The book is well written, succinct and follows a logical progression as it moves you along the path to reading music. Even if you have never had any instruction in music before, this book will give a huge helping hand. I think it is just what I needed as a refresher course and I will continue to refer to it as I practice, practice, practice the skills I once had mastered. The linked table of contents makes navigation easy in this one.

With little fluff and a lot of great information, this short is helping me and I'm sure it will help you as well. If you have a genuine desire to learn how to read music, and you faithfully practice what you learn here, this is the book to get you started. A solid 4 3/4 stars from me.

I have always dreamed of playing guitar. Erich has helped me along this path with his books. This one is no different. Learning to read music and understand the music structure will help legitimize my guitar dream.

The board is now set, let us begin

By far, this is my favorite of the three books in The Cadicle series. This time we’re not focusing completely on the boy genius/future commander Wil. Enter Saera, outcast, intelligent, shy, unlikely candidate from Earth, who takes the opportunity to join the TSS as a new beginning to her life. She quickly realizes she can only escape her specific situation, not the behaviors that caused it. Saera decides to fully embrace her choice and be the best at what the TSS can make her. Her intelligence and determination grabs Wils attention and soon a friendship is formed. The relationship is exactly what Wil needs to break out of his shell/depression and enjoy life. This is exactly how I'd expect a teen to behave, super genius or not.

Pros:
• This book is more meaty and substantial than the previous books, so it’s a much longer read. Having an advance version, I’ve read my pre-release copy twice now.
• The character development of Wil is great. Wil is treated more like a person, less like an object as I felt he was in the previous book. There is less of the “you’re going to save the Taran race” and more “we’ve a problem and are hoping you’ll solve it” attitude towards Wil. His anxiously awaited graduation and the challenges he faces are handled with intelligence and grace.
• Our view of this world (universe) keeps expanding and we fill in more backstory, including more on the Priesthood, the Sietinen High Dynasty, the Bakzan empire.

Cons:
• None I can think of. This book addressed the problems I had with the previous two books, namely the length of the novel and the time jump between Architects of Destiny (Cadicle #1) and Veil of Reality (Cadicle #2).

Romance, political intrigue and action

Bonds of Resolve is the exciting third book in the Cadicle series and I became so engrossed with the story that I had trouble putting it down, even to go to sleep!!!! This series overall has me absolutely rivited with it's twists and turns and mystery - if only the author could write faster so I don't have to wait too long for the next book. Bonds of Resolve introduces a new character - Saera is a young woman from Earth who has been selected for TSS training and who just so happens to catch the eye of Wil Sights. The two develop a close friendship that slowly develops into romance. They are both well suited to each other - both have had difficult experiences that have left mental scars. Through their relationship they are able support each other's needs. What I really enjoy about Amy DuBoff's writing is her ability to get into the minds of her characters and their complex inter-relationships with other characters. Du Boff has a true understanding of the complex entwining of emotions - both physical and mental that people feel when they fall in love - there is a true tenderness and honesty - a meeting of minds in the love that develops between Wil and Saera, There is no doubt that both characters will be a force to be reckoned with against the Bekzan (the enemies of Tararia). As ever the Priesthood remain in the background, manipulting the course of events and their power is evident in Tararian politics - The Bonds of Resolve throws up more questions - like why there are no women in the Priesthood and what their true motivations are???? Can't wait to find out further developments in the plot-line - highly recommend the Cadicle series.

Book #3 in the Cadicle series is a much welcome addition to a series that I have enjoyed getting in to. Book one was a good intro to this interesting universe. Book two was good setup for the story we are jumping in to. And now book 3 gives us a great start to the epic space opera that this series is supposed to be.

I enjoyed the fact that book three is getting us into the meat and potatoes of the conflict against the Bakzen. We actually get to see just how big this conflict is and is going to be. There are more things I'd like to say about it but I'd rather not give away details that are better discovered just by reading the book. I will say though that I do like how the author addresses the stress put on the main character. Often times books ignore just how hard and complex large scale operations can be for those involved. I feel DuBoff really does a good job of adding in the details often left out in such massive stories, and one of the reasons I was interested in reading a "space opera" in the first place rather than the usual sci-fi series which is just different stories in different books that happen to take place in the same universe with the same or similar characters.

At the end of the day, I can't wait to read book 4 as I expect there will be a lot of awesome things contained within its pages.

A Quick Guide to Making Your Teaching Stick, K-5 is a fantastic resource from Teachers College Workshop Help Desk. I thought it was so fantastic that I bought it for the 20 teachers I am working with for a week of professional development on Writers Workshop and am seriously thinking about buying it for the other K-6 teachers in our district.

A great complement to the Units of Study that I wish had been published years ago.

Good enough

Its just OK... This book helps me study but is not organized nicely, especially with bold info. I find it easier to look terms up online for clarification than to read the roundabout mess in the book. It saves me a lot of time when making my study guides to 1' use the web and 2' use the book. Sometimes the diagrams explain things better than an entire page. I wish my teacher picked a better book, bottom line.

Most texts books I read through each chapter. I tried that with this book and I felt like I accomplished little. The way the book is worded leaves a lot to be desired.

I needed this book for my MLT immunology class. It is a good resource but very scientificly wordy. There is a lot of information aimed at a higher level of education than the program that I was taking. Lots of things to look forward to as I progress in my understanding of immunological things.
