Very useful and fun to read

Written with electrical engineering samples, this book is useful for anyone doing engineering of any kind. The book captures the practical wisdom of a life-long practitioner, someone who was in the trenches of the engineer's world. I am a software engineer and found much that was useful for me. Chapters like "If I Could See It, I Could Fix It" are very useful. Overall, the author is more concerned with highlighting good questions to ask and how engineers think than providing specific answers, which is why the book is so useful. Asking the right questions is something that is learned over time and much more important than the specific answer in a particular context.

The book is also hilariously funny. The author has a wonderful sense of humor that had me laughing uproariously many times.

Highly recommended for any users of multivariate analysis

This book is an extraordinary reference that covers many important topics in a lucid way. It's mathematically accurate, though not heavily so, but also has a lot of important "lore" that's missing from many books to allow potential users to bring methods in practice. Just to pick two topics, the chapter on ecological resemblance provides many really useful caveats that prospective users need to know and the treatment of redundancy analysis is similarly lucid and much better than any other description I have read. Highly recommended for anyone who makes use of multivariate analysis techniques in ecology, biology, psychology, sociology, data science, etc. The examples are from ecology but none of them appear to be so heavy that if you don't have an ecology background you couldn't figure out what's going on with a bit of time on Wikipedia. The fact that this is a Third Edition is evident: The text is all quite smooth and clean.

The only worry I have is that a 1000 page paperback might get beat up and fall apart, but I'll take the risk for this quality of content.

Fun graphic novel; enjoyed by wide age range

We just received this book in the mail, the morning of its official release, thanks to Amazon pre-order. The kids were thrilled! Boys and girls ages 4-12 gathered around and poured over the picture and stories together, and then took turns reading it individually.
Since they are big fans of Hatke's Zita series (see Zita the Spacegirl (Zita the Spacegirl Series)), the kids are excited to read all of his graphic novels.
As a mom, I love that the pictures and stories draw the kids into books and inspire them to read.
I asked the children what they thought of the book:
"I really liked it. The setting (bridge and river and mountains) reminded me of my town. There's not many words, but I really enjoyed it." -- boy, 12
"I really like it too, even though it's probably more for younger kids. The pictures were fun." -- girl, 11
"A girl finds a robot but he wants to play with other robots like him. So he leaves her...I like the robot that fixes stuff. He fixes up all the other robos. I think it's silly... I like silly." -- boy, 8

Lovely, warm fuzzy cross between a wordless picture book and a graphic novel. Our hero is a little girl who likes to fix things and she saves a cute little robot from capture by the big bad robots with only the help of a wrench. I've read several of Hatke's books and his art is adorable. The majority of this title is wordless, next come sound effects but there are speech bubbles also and I'd say this would make a good visualized story for young non-readers to interpret as well. The girl and the robots are charming and I found myself rooting for them for the entire story. The book is timeless, it could be taking place now or in the future. The cuteness and junkyard robot setting brought to mind "Wall-E" and I believe this is going to be an endearing tale. I loved it!

Cute book

Such a cute book. My 8 year old with dyslexia really loves it because it doesn't have a ton of text and the text it does have is really big. Most of his graphic novels and comic books have tiny text that is really hard for him to read. It's nice that he can read this to himself without my help.
